$8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit Extended and Expanded

The goverment has voted to keep the $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers and expand the credit to include current homeowners. The main details are listed below, see if you qualify:

First Time Home Buyer

• Someone who has not owned property for a minimum of 3 years
• Credit does not have to be paid back as long as you keep the home for 3 years as your primary residence
• Credit equals 10% of the purchase price up to $8,000 MAX credit
• Deadline April 30, 2010

Move Up / Repeat Home Buyer Tax Credit

• Owned and lived in home for 5 consecutive years out of 8
• Credit does not have to be paid back as long as you keep the home for 3 years as your primary residence
• Credit equals 10% of the purchase price up to $6,500 MAX credit
• Deadline April 30, 2010
